MARK OF THE RAVEN: THE RAVENWOOD SAGA, BOOK ONE, by Morgan L. Busse, Bethany House/Baker Publishing Group

38485496

Lady Selene is the heir to the Great House of Ravenwood and the secret family gift of dreamwalking. As a dreamwalker, she can enter a person’s dreams and manipulate their greatest fears or desires. For the last hundred years, the Ravenwood women have used their gift of dreaming for hire to gather information or to assassinate.

As she discovers her family’s dark secret, Selene is torn between upholding her family’s legacy–a legacy that supports her people–or seeking the true reason behind her family’s gift.

Her dilemma comes to a head when she is tasked with assassinating the one man who can bring peace to the nations, but who will also bring about the downfall of her own house.

One path holds glory and power, and will solidify her position as Lady of Ravenwood. The other path holds shame and execution. Which will she choose? And is she willing to pay the price for the path chosen?

MY THOUGHTS:

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book has everything: intrigue, good vs. evil, factions, swords, politics, strife, well-developed characters, fantasy elements, secrets, assassinations, warring sects, and different houses with different powers.  There’s even romance.

This is going to be a series, which is fine but there’s so much to just this first book that I hope the author bangs off another one right away and doesn’t keep readers waiting a year to get their hands on it.  Otherwise, all those important elements that make up this great story will be forgotten.

I love the cover. I also hope that this isn’t going to be a story about the Protagonist throwing away everything because of man.  Perhaps once, that type of story was thought fun and exciting; however, in today’s world–women know better. The concept and world-building was interesting and done really well and this story paces fast and deliberate. Love the twists and turns but mostly, love the character development.

I enjoyed this read and look forward to seeing where the author goes next.

I give it:
