THE MUTTS SUMMER DIARIES, by Patrick McDonnell, Andrews McMeel Publishing

Put on your swim trunks and hit the beach with Earl and Mooch—the dog (and cat) days of summer are here!

It’s summertime, and the living is easy, the ice cream is cold, and the temperature is so hot your brains will melt right out of your head. Mooch and Earl are eager to make the most of it, lounging in the backyard pool, building sandcastles on the beach, and exchanging knock-knock jokes with a dolphin. From whales and tsunamis to lemonade and Bermuda shorts, this Mutts collection is packed full of summer fun!

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

I absolutely love the work of Patrick McDonnell. I’ve had the pleasure to review other books of his and think his style and artwork is priceless. His tongue-in-cheek humor can bring a smile to anyone’s face.

This particular book is all about the Mutts spending time at the beach and interacting with the creatures there.  I don’t know who I love more,  Mooch or Earl, but think it’s safe to admit a lusting after both. Using both black and white illustrations and brilliant color strips, you get the full effect of McDonnell’s talent. I love the layout, the unique workbook background and can almost hear the drumbeat banging after each punchline.

You even get at the back of the book, a section, “More To Explore,” that shares information on behaviors and habitats of coastal and marine animals. So much to a little book!

Loads of fun for the whole family!
